Overview

How Funding Works

Settlement, batch processing, and the factors that affect your deposit timing.

  1. 1

    Authorize & Capture

The payment is approved and captured for processing.

  2. 2

    Batch & Settle

Captured card transactions are submitted for clearing and settlement.

  3. 3

    Fund Your Bank Account

Your provider sends merchant proceeds according to your funding arrangement.

Understanding Your Funding Schedule

Card transactions are authorized, captured, and submitted for clearing and settlement, often through a daily batch. Merchant funding is a separate step: your provider sends the resulting net proceeds to your designated bank account under your agreed schedule. Many standard arrangements fund in one or two business days after batch close, but timing varies by provider, holds, bank, holidays, and account configuration. ACH payments follow a different bank-transfer process.

Batch Cut-Off Times

Processors set daily batch cut-off times. Transactions submitted before the configured cut-off may be included in the current processing cycle; later submissions may move to a subsequent cycle. Batch closure, network settlement, and arrival of funds at your bank are not the same event. Weekend and holiday treatment depends on the funding program and bank.

Accelerated Funding Options

Some processors offer faster merchant deposits for eligible accounts, subject to cut-offs, underwriting, fees, and participating banks. RTP and FedNow are separate bank-to-bank instant payment rails; they do not automatically make ordinary card batches settle instantly. Ask which funding program is actually available for your merchant account.

Trace a Missing Deposit

Check whether the transaction was authorized and captured, whether the batch closed, whether a settlement or funding report shows a transfer, and whether your bank posted the deposit. Compare net amounts after fees, refunds, reserves, or adjustments. Contact support with the batch date and non-sensitive reference details if the expected window has passed.

Merchant Checklist

Check Your Expected Deposit

Use these steps before requesting a funding trace. Your processor’s account-specific schedule remains the source of truth.

  1. 1

    Confirm the batch

Verify that the card payment was captured and the batch closed successfully.

  2. 2

    Check the cut-off

Compare the batch closing time with your configured processing cut-off and business-day schedule.

  3. 3

    Review adjustments

Compare the expected net deposit with refunds, fees, reserves, and other adjustments shown in your reports.

  4. 4

    Check bank posting

Review your bank activity. If the agreed window has passed, contact support with the batch date and non-sensitive reference details.

Never send full bank account numbers or cardholder data through an ordinary contact message.

FedNow

The Federal Reserve's instant payment service. Enables round-the-clock settlement for eligible transactions at participating banks and credit unions.

Same-day merchant card funding and instant bank-to-bank payments are different services; neither is guaranteed. Bank and network participation may change over time.

FAQs

Funding FAQs

Answers to common questions about deposits and timelines.

When will I receive my deposits?

Many card-processing arrangements provide merchant deposits within one or two business days after batch close, but this is not universal. ACH has its own processing and return rules. Check your provider's funding schedule, holds, cut-off time, and bank posting practices.

What is a batch cut-off time?

A batch cut-off is the daily deadline for transactions to be included in that day's settlement batch. Transactions submitted before the cut-off may enter the current processing cycle; later transactions may enter the next one. This does not guarantee same-day bank funding. Contact ONKORE to confirm your configured cut-off.

Do deposits happen on weekends?

Many standard card-funding schedules are based on business days, so weekends and bank holidays can shift deposits. Some eligible accelerated programs operate on different schedules. Confirm the actual terms with your provider.

Is same-day funding available?

Same-day funding may be available depending on your processor, merchant eligibility, and financial institution. It is not guaranteed. Availability and speed depend on cut-off times, transaction type, and whether your bank supports accelerated settlement.

What are RTP and FedNow?

RTP (operated by The Clearing House) and FedNow (operated by the Federal Reserve) are instant bank-to-bank payment networks for eligible transfers at participating financial institutions. They are distinct from card-network settlement; availability depends on participating institutions and the payment service being used.

Why was my deposit delayed?

Common causes include weekend or holiday processing, batch cut-off timing, new account holds, ACH settlement timelines, or issues with your bank account details. If a delay persists beyond the expected window, contact ONKORE support to investigate.
